As we have started to organise our filming we have found getting all the actors together has been more difficult than intended, Daniel has been very flexible about the times he can come however we have chosen to find some other actress' to perform in the video.
We have also decided not to use a second male actor as it seems more appropriate to leave the female standing alone at the end of the video.
The new cast:
Male - Daniel Shaw
Female 1 - Anisha Cosgrove
Female 2 - Bethany Johnson
We are planning to use a room in an old house, we will use props to make the room look busy, we want it to look like a real life teenagers room, at the beginning of the filming the room will be full and throughout the video we will show the male emptying the room of his ex girlfriends items to show the idea of him letting go of the relationship, we will also use high key and low key lighting to show different emotions through the break up.
We want to do a shoot of the male alone on swings in a park, we want the background to look plain to suggest he is feeling lonely and isolated from the rest of his friends and family following the break up.
We will use a time laps in the video to show how time is passing the male by whilst he is feeling sad and alone, we think a shot over a bridge with car headlights flowing underneath it will portray this well.
For our video we are planning on using an area which we are able to light a small controlled fire, this could be a wood somewhere, quite isolated, we will need permission for this and will have to carry out a risk assessment very carefully for this shoot.
We have considered using a bus shelter which again looks quite isolated to show the feeling of him being alone throughout the breakup.
Stars are constructed, artificial images, even if they are
represented as being "real people", experiencing real emotions etc.
It helps if their image contains a USP — they can be copied and/or parodied
because of it. Their representation may be metonymic — Madonna's conical bra in
the early 1990s, Bono's 'Fly' sunglasses, Britney's belly, Justin Bieber's
bangs. Pop stars have the advantage over film stars in that their constructed
image may be much more consistent over a period of time, and is not dependent
on the creative input of others (e.g. screenwriters writing their lines).
Dyer proposes that:
A star is an image not a real person that is constructed (as
any other aspect of fiction is) out of a range of materials (eg advertising,
magazines etc as well as music videos).
Yet that construction process is neither automatic nor fully
understood. Record companies think they know about it — but witness the number
of failures on their books. TV programmes such as The X Factor show us the supposed
construction process, how an ordinary person is groomed, styled and coached
into fulfilling a set of record company and market expectations. This is not
true stardom, which must happen through a combination of factors. None of them
labelled 'X'.
Imagine showing us 15
years ago to Simon Cowell! That's the problem with Pop Idol. They're
auditioning cabaret singers. It's not pop music. It's Batley Variety Club.”
The Pet Shop Boys, quoted in Q, March 2002
“[Cowell is a] dreadful piece of crap who drags the music
business down whenever he rears his ugly head... Pop stars today have no
longevity. Rock 'n' roll is not about singing perfect notes or being a showbiz
personality. It's about the anger and the angst. I hate what Pop Idol has done
to the business.”
— Roger Daltrey
As a record buying public, we prefer to believe in stars who
are their own and our constructions rather than a transparent offering designed
explicitly to appeal to our blander tastebuds served up by a record company
interested only in our wallets.
First scene shows the initial couple arguing, then the female walking out and slamming the door. (sound is replaced so you cant here what they are saying)
Next scene shows the main character either breaking, clearing out or throwing away the females belongings. He finds a bracelet, looks at it, and then puts it on.
When the lyrics say "her eyes are like the bluest skies" zooms in on a photograph he is holding, which switches to a video of them together, kissing and being a loving couple.
Next shows him alone, for example sat on a swing set on his own. Stood on a bridge alone / by a river alone.
Then returns to him holding a box of photographs and scrapbooks of their time together.
Shows to him next to a fire throwing contents of the box into the fire, extreme close ups onto the burning items.
Skips to him stood in a crowd, starts walking towards a bridge, see's his ex and her new boyfriend. Walks in between them and hugs another girl behind them, then takes his bracelet off and throws it off the river.
Final scene shows the bracelet sinking, showing how he has finally moved on and let her go.

Danny has the young indie look that we were desiring whilst casting our music video. Danny has a history of acting experience including a national theatre performance of "Don't Feed The Animals" at the sheffield crucible theatre.
Using easily recognisable iconography if something that, if used successfully, can be something that makes the music videos narrative easy to follow. for example using the iconic image of the artist standing outside of thier ex's house holding a stereo ( From the film Say Anything) represents love and companionship. The problem is this technique has been done so much in the past that it has almost become cliche; similar to using the concept of Romeo and Juliet.
We have decided to not use any specific iconic scenes from other forms of media in our video, we might use other signs and signifiers that we discovered by researching theorists such as Goodwin, Carol Vernallis and Laure Mulvey. For example using different shots expressing the male and female gaze.
I have used Wordle to create a TA profile, the words I have used describe what I think the consumers of my music video will be like. I looked at who listens to the genre of my music video the most and found that it is a popular music genre for a niche group of people, often referred to as hipsters, they also have their own fashion style, the iconic look is seen to be a vintage dress sense and the age group is usually a younger crowd.
In the music video, we will use modern, iconic brands, using brands which are well known to the audicence we are targeting will help create an appeal to those watching. Modern clothing brands will fit in well with our music video as we are setting it in the present day; the colours and styles of the clothing will be planned carefully, the clothing will also fit in to this time, as the clothes date or go out of fashion they will fit in to this time period.
With the major use of social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram we will be able to reach our target audiance both quickly and efficiently. We can also create things such as questionaires and surveys online which people can film in using these surveys. The song we're using can also be uploaded to facebook to get our target audiances responses.
It is clear that the indie rock genre is a popular genre of video, this was a good choice for our song.
Over half the participants requested a video which is both narrative and performative.
I will create some iphone adverts to promote our new artist.
This question was rather vague, although we aren't going to portray arguments in the video we will show the anger and sad emotion in the shots.
This has shown that people also associate surroundings in a music video to the genres of the song, I do agree with the results, I think the suggestions will fit in really well and will portray feeling in the video.
These answers have made us think more about breaking some codes and conventions to create something which is different from other music videos of this genre but we don't want to break too many

I'm gonna pick up the pieces, And build a Lego house If things go wrong we can knock it down
My three words have two meanings, There's one thing on my mind It's all for you
And it's dark in a cold December, but I've got you to keep me warm And if you're broken I'll mend you and keep you sheltered from the storm that's raging on now
I'm out of touch, I'm out of love I'll pick you up when you're getting down And out of all these things I've done I think I love you better now
I'm out of sight, I'm out of mind I'll do it all for you in time And out of all these things I've done I think I love you better now
I'm gonna paint you by numbers And colour you in If things go right we can frame it, and put you on a wall
And it's so hard to say it but I've been here before And I'll surrender up my heart And swap it for yours
I'm out of touch, I'm out of love I'll pick you up when you're getting down And out of all these things I've done I think I love you better now
I'm out of sight, I'm out of mind I'll do it all for you in time And out of all these things I've done I think I love you better now
Don't hold me down I think my braces are breaking and it's more than I can take
And it's dark in a cold December, but I've got you to keep me warm And if you're broken I'll mend you and keep you sheltered from the storm that's raging on now
I'm out of touch, I'm out of love I'll pick you up when you're getting down And out of all these things I've done I think I love you better now
I'm out of sight, I'm out of mind I'll do it all for you in time And out of all these things I've done I think I love you better now
I'm out of touch, I'm out of love I'll pick you up when you're getting down And out of all these things I've done I will love you better now
From the beginning of the music video, Tzvetan Todorov's narrative theory can be applied the video is a way of telling a story about ourselves, not our own personal stories but the story of us as a culture. we aspire to be something were not, we idolize celebrities and wish to be like them as well as living they're life style, the story begins with equilibrium.
Equilibrium
A male is obsessed with his favorite celebrity, and starts to imitate and pretend to live his lifestyle.
Disequilibrium
The obsessed male sneaks behind stage at one of Ed Sheerans concerts, whilst skulking around he walks onto the main stage where fans are cheering because they believe the male to be Ed Sheeran, security abruptly escorted the male off the premise where he has a realization that he is not Ed and sees how his life really is.
New Equilibrium
Whist being kicked out of the concert the male comes across Ed Sheeran in person and is amazed, after this brief moment of meeting his idol the elevator doors close, this re-triggers this idolizing state of which he was in before. The male then quickly reverts back to his old ways of trying to be Ed Sheeran.
Cinematography – in this video a number of basic shot types are used predominantly consisting of Mid and Long shots allowing the audience to denote his isolation throughout the video.
The video itself fits the target audiences preferences perfectly, from the style of music down to the mise on scene, the Clothes that both the artist and the other models are wearing fit perfectly with the specific genre of indie acoustic (casual comfort) the demographic category this video is target at Class E as well as Class D, the relation ship between the lyrics and the visuals are perfectly matched there is one scene where the artist is singing about building a Lego house this is very illustrative, where as in the video the model is constructing something out of Lego bricks. As far as inter textual references there aren't any they jump out. There are many shots of ed sheeran even if there are not shot of him in a physical form there are posters and picture through out the video, this tells us that there was a high demand from the record label wanting close ups which help develop a motif which recurs across Ed Sheerans work.
the mise-en-scene throughout the video indicates a hectic life style this can be seen because of all the clutter in the stalkers apartment
